The flu season is upon us and while you try to disinfect eveything in your house, you may be forgetting one important thing. Dr. Yanni provides some important health tips on ABC40's "Fighting the Flu" segment.

Tolland, CT -Halloween may be over, but the treats keep coming. Yanni Family Orthodontics recently received more than 400 pounds of candy collected through their Candy Buy Back Event. Students at local schools collected more than 20 boxes of candy and area residents turned out to the event to fill the bins. Yanni Family Orthodontics donated the collected candy to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. The candy will go to families who receive assistance through the hospital’s food bank. Currently, the food bank serves 1500 families.

“We are overjoyed with the amount of candy we collected,” says Dr. Janice Yanni. “Because of the students and everyone who turned out to our event, we are able to help out those in need this holiday season. We can’t thank everyone enough!”

The winning classrooms in the participating schools received $100 and a pizza party from Dr. Yanni. The orthodontist office also donated candy to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Springfield, MA. Yanni Family Orthodontics plans to do this again next year and encourages all the local schools to participate to help double the amount of candy collected.

Dr. Janice Yanni of Yanni Family Orthodontics was recently honored with the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield’s 2012 Super 60 Award for Revenue Growth at Chez Josef in Agawam. The esteemed award is presented annually to the top businesses in the region which continue to make significant contributions to the strength of the regional economy.

The practice was nominated by S. Reichelt & Company, Inc. “It is a great honor to receive this award and know that we are helping the region’s economy grow,” said Dr. Janice Yanni. “With continued growth and expansion into Western Massachusetts and Eastern Connecticut we strive to create a strong economic climate in the areas that we work and live.”

Dr. Yanni has been providing comprehensive orthodontic care to children, teens and adults in the area for more than twelve years.

The cold weather is right around the corner and unfortunately, thousands of area children will not have a warm coat this winter, but Yanni Family Orthodontics is working to change that. The West Springfield and Tolland, CT offices are taking part in the Salvation Army’s Annual Coats for Kids Campaign. YFO is one of many drop spot locations where residents can bring in new or gently used coats to be given out at the Salvation Army’s Distribution Event in November. The coats will go to families who are in need this winter season.

Dr. Janice Yanni, owner of Yanni Family Orthodontics, is confident that her patients will be extremely giving. “Our patients are always stepping up to the plate to help local causes that we take part in, and we couldn’t do anything without the support of our patients,” says Dr.Yanni. “We are confident that our collection box will be overflowing with coats.”

You do not have to be a patient of Dr. Yanni’s to drop off a coat. Everyone is encouraged to stop by the West Springfield, MA or Tolland, CT offices. The collection ends Friday, October 18th
